Photography and your equipment.

The photographer and Equipment By Gary Bridger

For courses www.photographergarybridger.com

It's all very fine getting tied up in the equipment fetish if you are filthy rich. It's a damn struggle to get good lenses as it is for most. The only time a good lens stands its ground is when your images are focused on and pulled to bits for High tech criticism, is when you present the stock to companies , where everything matters. Honestly, after getting the noticed awards for my work, discovering after doing a degree level course in digital photography, the art of photography, and photographic practice; does all these expensive lenses justify  the cost out lay ? I'd sooner go back to medium format film. However, Canon does give flexibility throughout its range and offers something for everyone.
photography has not really changed much. Its just has become more easier to get the result you want. High tech bodies and lenses will not make you a better photographer.
In fact, my best loved work awarded was taken on a compact.

Unless you are in commercial industrial large print poster production. Does having pin share images really matter ?

The art of photography does not focus on tech perfection. It views the content, story, composition for what one wants to express . They are not going to blow it to bus size, or will they look at it over 200% to see where it falls apart.

So all you budding photographers, next time you see us with all our lenses, or us seeing those others with perfecting lenses. Just remember!  It's you that make the image, not the money!

What makes the picture?

A story in one shot. Black and white seem to be the art form that will stand time. Or Impact of colour. And definition.

For showing your work. the window that will be most effective is the web! As your photos are compressed. Here the view with more impact,  if your selling for big prints , Then you do need a lens that will yield the highest quality you can afford.

Photography or for most who own a camera , Its not about taking hundreads of photographs , Cropping them to bits,  then blasting them with digital editing. That is another art form. Digital art. it does not fall into photography at the end of the day.

Good photography is viewed, as to produce from the original. To view the Original with perhaps some sharpening and tonal adjustment.  When you take that picture. All the elements must come together at the time of pressing the shutter button. Painting with light ! Form,Texture, balance, composition,Relation, colour,And subject, And more to add. To many of you are blinded with what you see as the main subject. Cutting out feet, losing Balance and losing what really makes a picture.
the camera and lens . Light metre ( exposure) Even in the most High tech cameras, Are merely a tool, And a Moron waiting to be used. The camera  will not make the picture for you.
